Have you ever wondered why when brand define something “sportswear“, it probably has nothing to do with sport itself? Most of brands don’t have a proper sport line, I mean stuff you can actually wear to do sport. The sport garments are usually called active wear: as if it wasn’t confusing and hard enough!
I know this is a dreaded word, I almost shake in my chair when I write it, sport. You just have to be born with that attitude, and if you’re not, no matter how much you try. But here I am to help! What if you were born sport savvy and fashionista at the same time? Going to the gym , or for a bike ride can become a nightmare!
I remember that the gym lesson back at school was worst than everything else, just because I had to change and wear something, just, UGLY; wht don’t we wear nice stuff to do sport insted? It’s always a boost for those who actually don’t want to do sport, but have to (me, anyone? haha)
My first suggestion is to choose bright colours: I know that those are often not too nice on our body, and that we’re sooo used to black, but really, watching a black crow dancing and jumping in the mirror is just not self-flattering. It doesn’t make you want to do better and go further! So, go for colours! If you must, don’t choose black, but choose grey, Much better.
Above you have Natalie Portman as an example: pink and grey, why not?
Always about colours, DON’T GO WHITE PLEASE! White is that dreaded colour that is too much see-through to do any sport in. Any.
You don’t have to go run in high heels as in the picture (High-heel-a-thon, very funny and for a good cause!). Choose the proper wear, especially when it comes to shoes: well-made running shoes and trainers often include shock absorbers to reduce the stress impact on our feet when landing while running, which is very important for our spine. So for once, better choose a proper shoe like a pair of Reebok Easytone and go easy with your jogs!
Good news is that you can be nice when you go riding your bike: you don’t have to dress like a racing cyclist!
Avoid laces is the firs rule! You don’t want to fall and roll down the hill because you absolutely wanted to wear your new pink glitter laced sneakers. Avoid heels, too, you aren’t the pin-up in the picture! You are going to work out, not to a pic-nic!
Backpack: that’s absolutely needed when on your bike. You have to bring with you your iPod, water, towel, and a sweater for afterwards!
The rest of the outfit can be a nice and comfy pair of leggings or short stretchy pants, with an airy cotton dress above and a nice hat; why not?
Tight and stretchy are my keywords when it comes to pilates: you have to be very comfortable, it’s true, but when in strange positions the last thing you want is having to deal with your trousers rolling over your leg, or your oversize t-shirt twisting behind your back on the mat.
Shoes? Don’t worry about that, for pilates you don’t have to wear shoes! Just bring in some shoes that you’re fast in taking off, and be sure to wear some nice socks, too!
