Blame it on the 90s! Blame it on my mother who refused to buy a pair of Buffalo boots or any platform/wedge shoe whatsoever! I’ve had a real addiction to big and chunky shoes since my teenage years: I’m 26 and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.
Yes, I occasionally wear flat shoes, I do own a number of pair of All Star Converse, but my heart went boom when I saw this pair of Adidas mid super-chunky trainers with 80s colours, even if it was only a couple of years ago, when flat shoes were all the rage. I rejoiced when wedges and platform started to be à-la-page again thanks to the 90s revival, and now I can’t go out in the evening without wearing my favourite boots.
Well, I didn’t need big shoes to be trendy though, I’ve always found my way to them anyway. In 2008-2009 I was a committed goth clubber and I had a range of huge shoes, starting from the Buffalo my mom never wanted to buy for me when I was 13 (and that I got myself when I was 21, you can spot them in the second picture right here!). I also used to go around in stuff like this, and mostly like this.
I absolutely loved the massively huge look of my feet compared to the skinny legs (and I still do). That’s another thing big shoes do: they make your legs look skinnier and longer (no wonder my friends used to call me Bambi whenever I had those shoes on ) ! Well, that’s the rule of thumb, of course there are exceptions and tricks, like: avoid wearing knee high boots if you have thick calves.
Get yourself some chunky shoes
First, some shoes that I own or have owned in the past that I find extremely comfortable and totally suggested to go to any concert/festival out there. (Yes, that’s another perk of big shoes! Walking *above* mud and being taller than anyone else at a concert).
- Demonia Stomp 306: amazazzing! I’ve never worn something so comfortable and which fits every situation and place. You want those in your wardrobe!!
- Demonia Trashville 518: I absolutely loved them. They came with me EVERYWHERE until I broke them into pieces. I even kept wearing them when the zip broke. Must have!
- Buffalo Classics: that’s what I mean when I talk about Buffalo! Forget all the range of “normal” shoes they do. We want the real stuff!!
Alright, if you don’t want to go this extreme, you have plenty of choice everywhere today! You can have some simple white sneakers with an edge, or the black version. You can go totally crazy with this striped platform shoe, or get back on Earth with these perfect everyday wedges. If I were you, I would use these Jeffrey Campbells as everyday shoes, but hey, it’s up to your tastes!
