Minimal Alternative Clothing

For a post about minimal alternative clothing we couldn’t help but giving it a minimal name. Three words is enough, as a few items are enough in a minimal outfit. Minimal is all about volumes and lines, it is almost about geometry. I love the minimal look a lot, but I barely manage to pull it off. I like my bracelets, my rings and my patterns too much!

To get a perfect minimal look there a few “rules” you have to go by. Of course, any style is what you make it, but sometimes it’s cool to experiment with something out of our comfort zone. Do you usually wear floral patterns and very feminine shoes and clothes? Try wearing a minimal outfit once: you might like it and who knows, you might get on with it!

Is it minimal alternative clothing? Despite the fact that it has been all the rage over the last few years, the real minimal look is indeed alternative. You don’t see many Ivana Carpio on the streets, do you? (if you don’t know who she is, google her immediately! Or maybe not, wait until you read the whole post. :P)

Basics of the Minimal Look

  1. No bright colours, no pastel colours. You need to swear loyalty to black, white, silver, gold and neutral colours like grey or camel.
  2. No patterns. Actually, you might use geometric patterns sometimes, but never overdo it. Solid colours are your friends.
  3. Volumes. Very tight clothes are not suitable for this style. Play with volumes and shapes.
  4. Androgyny. If you’re looking for a very feminine style, I’m afraid minimal is not your look!
  5. Less is more. Don’t wear too many bracelets or rings. Pick a couple very carefully, and avoid colourful jewelry. Go for silver, plexiglas, plastic.
  6. Simple is better. If you are in doubt, always choose the simpler option!
  7. Contrast is key. Wear square bracelets on your wrists, wear black and white, wear plain sneakers with an elegant outfit.

3 Minimal Alternative Clothing Outfits

We have picked 3 brands and created 3 different outfits for you to get inspired. Three is a magical number, don’t you think?

The brands we featured in these outfits are Delikate Rayne for the clothes, Matt&Natt the bags and Blowfish for the shoes. We picked Blowfish because Delikate Rayne and Matt&Natt are both quite expensive, while Blowfish has more accessible prices. And yes, of course all the brands we mentioned are cruelty-free!

This is my favourite look in the world. I wish I had the cash to revamp my entire wardrobe to make it all look like this. Clean, timeless and with a great big dose of attitude. Love love love.

Ditto. This is also my preferred look and I wish I had more black and gray tailored pieces to round out what I have already.

I totally wish it too Jesse! Too bad I have just decided to stop shopping altogether unless it’s used, vintage or sustainable&cruelty-free brands. It’s gonna be hard but I believe in the cause :*

Carina

Love these items! I like having influences of the minimal look, but i still need some colours in my life haha!
Anyway, i love the white asymmetrical dress and the vegan leather skirt! They both look like incredible pieces.

Hahah Carina I totally get that you need color sometimes! I seldom need colors in my outfits, but I often balance things out with a bright lipstick or a colourful nailpolish. Everyone needs a pop of color here and there!

I love the minimal look [but like you, prefer to wear those accessories!!]. Some days I can’t be bothered to overthink it though and throw on a black sweater, skinny jeans, and Converse sneakers. Clean, simple, and still fashionable. Can’t go wrong. 😉

Hahaha yeah, I go berserk with accessories sometimes. But I’ve been loving a clean look lately, so I find myself going for the minimal look more and more often! Oh well, for me it’s always been like this. One year I like colours, the year after I’m all black. My wardrobe goes through repeating cycles 😛

Robin

I love the simple but elegant look.

The minimal look is one of favourite looks hands down! So simple, elegant and it can be worn for almost any occasion. Spot on Robin!
